Introducing the Neuropositive Podcast

Hey, this is Phyllis Brasenell and I can't wait to bring you the Neuropositive Podcast! I created this podcast as an affirming space that celebrates neurodivergence in every form.

My older daughter is autistic and dyslexic, and on my journey with her over the years, I discovered I myself have ADHD. At nearly 40 years old, it helped me make sense of so much of my life, including my struggles with anxiety and depression.

But it's also been isolating, raising a neurodivergent child.

We face challenges and big questions our other friends simply don't have to confront. I want so badly to feel less alone in this, and I thought you might feel that way too. This podcast is for us.

Neuropositive is my effort at making something good out of all my fury, rage, grief, frustration, loneliness, and uncertainty, raising children in a world not made for them.

It's about fighting for our right to be different. It's about making the future truly inclusive.

Neuropositive is about creating the world we wish existed.

If you're an educator, a professional, a caregiver, an ally, or a loved one of a neurodivergent person, this is a place to maybe learn something new.

And if you are neurodivergent yourself or raising a neurodivergent child, this is especially especially for you. My hope is that you'll see your experience reflected and validated on the Neuropositive podcast.

Episodes are bite sized (less than 30 minutes each) and will come out twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays.

You can expect a mix of reflections from my own journey, as well as chats with other neurodivergent voices.

Our topics will often be pragmatic —like navigating IEPs in school, getting assessments done, accommodations in the workplace— and honestly sometimes it's going to be heavy. We're going to talk about discrimination, trauma, bullying…but my hope is that you'll walk away feeling lighter, inspired, better informed, more confident, and able to advocate for yourself and your children, and my hope is that we'll both feel less alone.

Episode one comes out on Monday, January 6th and you can go ahead and subscribe right now on your favorite podcast player. I hope you'll join me.
